History of
Monarchy
After God confused the language of
the rebellious people by confusing their language, they abandoned their attempt at
democracy for a while, scattered, and kings began to rule them. The kings like other sinful people were partially
good, partially bad. In the time
of the patriarchs even kings not dedicated to following God had often more morals than todays republican and
democratic politicians.
A particularly good king did come along
then in Abrahams time, Melchisadek,
king of Salem, referred to in Genesis as a priest of the high God. There was none of this sham of separation of religion and
state. ( All religions, including atheistic humanism, are intensely political if they are
practiced daily in real life. This is
apposed to theatrical touchy-feely religious displays, that are like theater. This king of
Salem was a warrior king too.
Saul began as a good king following
God, but then failed when he became a democrat, followed the people, sinned and was deposed.
Another warrior king was David a man
after Gods own heart. Although with
sins and failings, David wanted to follow God, not the people. His son Solomon had many good attributes at first, but then became
involved in human politic married foreign
princesses from Egypt, Phoenicia, etc. and was dragged
into sin.
As history continued there were
certainly bad kings aplenty, but good ones too. The good ones shone by following God:
Israel- David,
Hezekiah, Josiah
England Alfred, Richard I, James
I
France Louis I
Since the late Middle ages there have
few or no even nominally Christian absolute Monarchs.
Present day so-called monarchs are merely ribbon cutters under the thumb of sleazy
professional democratic politicians. Therefore,
there is no recent record, good or bad to
look at. We therefore, base our case upon the
ancient Godly Monarchs ones like David,
Hezekiah, Josiah., etc. described in the Bible.
